Apple Report Record Mac Sales

Apple recently released their fourth quarter results and they’re even better than expected. Analysts were anticipating great results for the company and shares on Wall Street had leapt 2.3% in expectation of the news. However, the company did so well, share prices leapt once more following the announcement and in after hours trading, they had increased by a whopping 6%.

The newly launched iPhone proved to be very successful for the company. They sold around 1.12 million phones, which was towards the top-end of their predictions. Tim Bajarin, an analyst from Creative Strategies, believed the success of the iPhone was also having a positive impact on the sale of other Apple products. He said: “There is no question that Mac sales are still having a halo effect from the iPod and iPhone.”

Indeed, the Mac has proved to be something of a golden goose for Apple with sales showing no sign of slowing down.  The Mac has mass appeal due to its simple operating system. As Tim Bajarin said, “More and more people have become interested in the Mac because of Apple’s ease of use.” He proved this by conducting his own survey of Apple stores, which showed that “Mac sales continued to be strong even in this quarter.” Shannon Cross, an analyst with Cross Research, echoed this sentiment. She said: “The iPhone is very important – and iPods as well – but the Mac shipments were really strong and what really helped drive the upside this quarter.”

Shares in Apple have doubled since the beginning of 2007 and Apple bosses look set to boost them further by the end of the year. Indeed, Steve Jobs, Apple CEO, believes their financial future looks bright. He said: “We’re looking forward to a strong December quarter as we enter the Holiday season with Apple’ s best products ever.”
